From growing herbs in their own back garden for sales at Covent Garden market (a presence the company retains at the new Covent Garden site even to this day), to supplying national supermarket chains and establishing the company as one of the UK’s leading herb suppliers, R&G has grown from strength to strength.
R&G had a specific requirement when we began working with them. They needed to reduce their film usage which in turn would reduce their costs. If KENRAY could achieve this it would also help to improve the appearance of the product in the bag.
Our dedicated Sales Engineer entered into a program with them to ascertain the correct bag size.
He then identied how we could deliver the product into the bag in the correct orientation and without causing bridging issues.
Our team of experienced Design Engineers specified formers for their individual needs i.e. maximising the ID of the tube by using K Lite formers with a thin wall.
We added a K Slip coating inside the tube to help reduce the risk of bridging (slippery coating for clumpy products like Basil, Coriander) and K Flow on the outside to assist with the flow of film and to allow for different film types.
We also developed a low friction ‘draw down strip’ which is positioned where the draw down belts touch down on the side of the former.
It incorporates spreaders to negate the requirement for Teflon tape.
Finally we supplied Dura Therm jaws via Greener Corporation to improve quality of the end seals and improve thermal conductivity at the jaw face which has also been successful.
The result – reduced film wastage – a better looking bag – better end seals – happy customer.
